A new essay by Abhishek Mohanty, a recipient of CAMHRA’s New Direction Seed Funding, has been published by the Royal Anthropological Institute (RAI) as part of its Film of the Month series. In the piece, Mohanty engages with Breeding Cells, an ethnographic film set within a fertility clinic in Berlin, where processes of reproduction are increasingly shaped by biomedical technologies and specialised forms of expertise.

Drawing on his broader interests in health, technology and anthropology, Mohanty reflects on the questions the film raises about the relationship between care, scientific practice and everyday life. His work sits at the intersection of health, digital technologies and ethnographic inquiry, examining how people encounter and make sense of changing technological futures.

The essay contributes to ongoing anthropological conversations about medicine, ethics and the social life of technology, highlighting the value of ethnographic film as a medium for engaging with complex questions about health and human experience.
